A museum and art gallery will close its doors this week and is not expected to open at its temporary home until next year.

Tunbridge Wells Museum & Art Gallery will close for redevelopment work this Friday.

The Civic Way building will move its services to Royal Victoria Place temporarily - but doors will not open until spring 2019.

Building work to enhance the current site, which dates back to the 1950s, is expected to start early next year, with completion not expected until the start of 2021.

Museum displays have been dismantled and put into storage over the last few months ahead of the move.

The existing museum and library are being redeveloped with the neighbouring adult education building, to bring them all together under one roof.

Once open, the new centre will be named after local social reformer and suffragette Amelia Scott.

"We now look forward to exciting new displays and services when the space reopens as The Amelia."
