A WOMAN from Kent has spoken about her caring daughter who was shot dead by a jealous former boyfriend.

Store assistant Clare Bernal, 22, was killed as she worked behind the beauty counter of Harvey Nichols in London's Knightsbridge on Tuesday night.

Her mother, Tricia, who lives at Groombridge, near Tunbridge Wells, said her daughter's only fault "was to see good in everybody".

In a statement, Mrs Bernal said: "Clare was unaware of her own beauty - both inside and outside - and the fault she possessed was to see good in everybody.

"This trust was eventually abused, leaving us all with such unbearable grief."

Ms Bernal was a former pupil at St Gregory's Catholic Comprehensive School in Tunbridge Wells and an ex-student at the West Kent College in Tonbridge.

She grew up at the family home in Groombridge with her brothers, James, 21, and Phillip, who is 17. Her parents are separated and her father lives in Orpington.

The man who murdered Ms Bernal, Czech-born Michael Pech, 30, turned the gun on himself in the store as horrified shoppers looked on.

Last month Pech admitted a charge of harassing Ms Bernal and was due to be sentenced on Wednesday, September 21.
