Two commercial properties could be redeveloped for flats.
Lake Street Investments has applied to Tunbridge Wells council for permission to extend and convert numbers 25 and 27 Quarry Road in the town into six apartments.
Currently the building comprises two commercial units most recently occupied by a house clearance business and a hairdressers, plus three flats built behind and above the retail units to give one three-bedroom maisonette, one two-bedroom flat and one single bedroom flat.
The company refers to the borough council’s shortfall in its five-year housing land supply, and suggests the redevelopment will help address that.
In fact, although it will increase the number of housing units, it will not increase the number of bedrooms, as all the proposed apartments would be one bedroom.
The site lies opposite the St Barnabus Primary School playing field and is close to the town centre.
There will be no provision for parking, but two of the units would have a rear garden.
