An elderly woman has died after reports of a stabbing in a residential street.

Police were called to a disturbance in Bright Ridge in Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells at around 11pm yesterday (August 31).

They attended with paramedics where a woman in her 80s and a man in his 20s were found with stab wounds.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man was taken to a local hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

He was later arrested by officers on suspicion of murder while inquiries to determine the full circumstances of the incident continue.

Both of those involved are known to each other and police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Officers remain at the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
