An air ambulance also attended the scene, where one vehicle was on its side and a person was trapped.

Fire crews stabilised the vehicles and made space with hydraulic rescue equipment so paramedics and helicopter emergency medics could assess and treat the casualty.

A fire service spokesman said: “The casualty was then passed to the care of paramedics and the duty of care for the scene of the incident to Kent Police.”

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene where one car was found overturned.

“The South East Coast Ambulance Service, South East Air Ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident following the report of an injury.

“The road was closed in order to clear debris and recover the cars.”

Ambulance services have been contacted for more information.
