The heavy pot was left upside down on the bonnet with soil scattered over the car.

The passenger side of the car's windscreen was heavily smashed.

Ollie Brock, who snapped a picture of the damage near the Allotment Pub, shared the curious incident online with residents.

He said: "It's not my car or my house. Its on the corner of Auckland Road, St James, I saw it on my way to the shop.

"My first thought was drunk kids but they could have upset someone I guess, either way a nasty surprise to wake up to."
