Police charge man with 1989 rape

AN ALARM engineer has been charged with a rape committed in Tunbridge Wells more than 15 years ago.

The alleged offence took place in the town's Fir Tree Lane car park on February 8, 1989. The victim was 18-years-old at the time.

David Kirby, aged 48, , of The Colonnade, Eastbourne has also been charged with the false imprisonment of the 18-year-old woman and the false imprisonment of a man, also aged 18 at the time of the offence.

Mr Kirby was charged by Kent Police at 11pm on Tuesday and was due to appear before magistrates in Sevenoaks on Wednesday morning, September 15.

Det Chief Insp Mick Judge, the senior investigating officer, said; "We are committed to reviewing unsolved serious crime. The charges against this man shows that no case is ever closed and we will always consider new lines of enquiry."
