Primark could be set to move into the former BHS store in Tunbridge Wells, according to industry sources.
The clothing giant, based in Ireland, is believed to be one of the retailers interested in moving into the former BHS store in the Royal Victoria Place in the town.
It follows the collapse into administration of BHS after a last-minute deal to rescue the ailing chain failed in April.
It was initially thought Wilko was interested in the Kent site, but pulled out when retail giant Primark is said to have put in a better offer.
Primark has nearly 300 stores and more than 57,000 staff.
A Primark spokesman said today: "Primark does not comment on speculation or plans regarding new store openings."
The rumoured move follows the opening of discount retailer Poundland in the town in October last year.
People in the town had expressed mixed views about the chain's plans to move in, with many saying a more "up-market" Waitrose store would be more appropriate.
