A Tunbridge Wells pub has been awarded for its food hygiene standards after a recent inspection.

Environmental inspectors have given The Robin Hood on Sandhurst Road a five star rating.

It's the second time in a row the Hungry Horse pub has received the highest mark that can be awarded for hygiene.

Each unannounced inspection checks how hygienically the food is prepared, cooked, cooled and then stored.

The cleanliness, layout and ventilation of a building is inspected, as well as how the pub manages and records what it does to ensure hygiene is of the highest standard.

Jenny Payne, manager of the pub, said: “The award demonstrates how hard our team works every day behind the scenes to ensure we produce food to the highest quality and publicly recognises those high standards.”

Marc McGuigan, business unit director for Hungry Horse, said: “Not only is this excellent news for the pub, but it also gives our customers the peace of mind when eating out. The award clearly signals that the food quality and hygiene levels are exceptional.”

Greene King, the pub retailer and brewer, was founded in 1799 and is headquartered in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.
