A teenager who allegedly attacked two pupils with a rubber mallet has appeared in court.

The 16-year-old was arrested after an incident at Tunbridge Well's Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in March.

Two students were injured.

He was charged with a string of offences including grievous bodily harm, attempted grievous bodily harm and having an offensive weapon.

Sitting next to his parents, the boy appeared at Maidstone Crown Court this morning for a plea and case management hearing.

He spoke only to confirm his name but did not enter a plea as the court was told a psychiatric report still needed to be prepared.

Judge David Griffith-Jones was told counsel also needed to agree on the wording of the indictment before it is put before the defendant for a plea.

The hearing was adjourned until Friday, July 10 when the defendant will appear again.

A provisional trial date has been set for Monday, July 20. It is expected to last five days.

The court heard if the case does come to trial five witnesses would be called.
