Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark could be deselected after it emerged that a petition calling for him to be sacked could be submitted to his local Conservative association.
Constituency officials have said they have not formally received any petition but were aware that one was being initiated.
The MP is among those thought to be considering joining a call by opposition parties for the option of a no-deal Brexit to be taken off the table.
The MP has not yet been readopted as the official candidate by the association.
Constituency chairman Jo Simmons has told KentOnline that as things stand no petition had been received but he was aware one was being circulated. If 50 members sign a petition, party rules say associations must hold a meeting to consider it.
Mr Clark has made no secret of his concerns about leaving the EU without a deal and as business secretary warned it could lead to thousands of job losses.
He has also voiced concerns about the move to suspend Parliament. He tweeted that the issue was so important that there needed to be more time to scrutinise the government's plans.
Boris Johnson has threatened to sack MPs who refuse to support the government in its efforts to defeat any attempt to block a no deal Brexit.
KentOnline has contacted Mr Clark but he has yet to respond.
