A four-year-old boy from Tunbridge Wells has been recognised with an award for his part in saving his grandfather's life.
Mohammed Yusufur Rahman, known as Yusuf, has been awarded a certificate of commendation by the Royal Humane Society after his grandfather, Mojibur Rahman, became unwell at the family home in November.
Yusuf's father Mohammed Shahinur Rahman known as Shahin said: "Yusuf was having breakfast in the morning sitting down next to his grandad and then suddenly he collapsed. His chair fell back and he was lying on the floor unconscious.
"Yusuf then tried moving him to see if he was awake but there was no response so he then ran to get his mother. He was really persistent and said grandad's shaking on the floor. He grabbed his mother's hand and brought her to him and that's when she was able to step in and call 999."
Paramedics took Mr Rahman, 60, to hospital where he received life-saving treatment.
Shahin, 35, added: "In terms of the incident, which we believe was a seizure, he's now okay although we're still unsure what caused it. But he is also having ongoing treatment for cancer.
"Yusuf was able to keep calm and he didn't shout or scream. He is really strong-willed and he's really proud of himself. Whenever he talks about it, he says 'I've saved my grandads life'.
"He's been through a lot at a young age yet he has achieved so much so we are all incredibly proud."
Yusuf, who goes to St Mark's Primary School on Ramslye Road, also received a Mayor's Bravery Award.
The Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Cllr James Scholes, presented Yusuf with his certificate in a school assembly.
Andrew Chapman, Secretary of the Royal Humane Society said: "For one so young Yusuf showed remarkable presence of mind. He didn’t panic as some youngsters would have done.
“He realised there was something seriously wrong with his grandfather and rushed to call his mother. Yusuf is one of the youngest people ever to win one of our awards but it’s a richly deserved. In situations like this time is all-important.
“The moment an incident like this happens it is essential to get the person in the hands of the paramedics as quickly as possible. The longer the delay the less chance the person has of surviving. Yusuf’s quick reaction undoubtedly helped save his grandfather’s life.”
