A group of Tunbridge Wells residents is calling on individuals and businesses to donate an hour’s earnings to help refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

TW Cares - friends who have been inspired to act to help the refugees - is running the ‘I Gave an Hour’ campaign throughout October.

Funds will go to the British Red Cross, the international relief agency which has people on the ground at crisis points throughout Europe.

Sally Fraser, founder of TW Cares, said: “As we have an extra hour this month when the clocks change, we really want people to consider donating an hour of their salary to the refugees so desperately in need.

"Businesses might like to give an hour’s profits and also encourage their employees to get on board with the campaign.

“We’ve got off to a fantastic start by reaching more than 50% of our £5,000 target but it would be great to beat that.

"We really want to show Tunbridge Wells is a caring and welcoming community, and that the UK wants to live up to its moral responsibility to protect the vulnerable.”

Mark Astarita, director of fundraising at the British Red Cross, commented: “The Syrian refugees need as much support as we can raise money to provide.

"The fantastic efforts and dedication of groups like Tunbridge Wells Cares means we can make a real difference where it’s needed most.”
