Playing football on a sloping field is no fun, but that is what one bunch of youngsters currently have to put up with.
But all that is about to change, with Kent County Council expected to approve plans next Wednesday for a new 3G synthetic turf multi-use games pitch at Bidborough Primary School, near Tunbridge Wells.
The school in Spring Lane has 208 pupils, but is on a hill. The current sloping pitch lies at the lower end of the site and often becomes water-logged in winter.
The new pitch will see the ground levelled out and laid with an all-weather porous surface that will enable the rain to soak through.
The school does lie within the green belt and is close to a conservation area, but planning officers say the scheme can be approved as it involves replacing an existing pitch with another.
No trees will be disturbed and no extra parking spaces created.
The new pitch will be surrounded by a 3m high green-coloured metal fence, for security and ball retention, but there will be no floodlighting.
No games will played after 6pm and only very exceptionally on Sundays.
However, the pitch will be available to after-school clubs as well as for regular school sports lessons.
You can see the application on the council's website. Head for the planning section and look for KCC/TW/0197/2022.
