Tributes have been paid after the mother of Pogue's singer, Shane MacGowan, died in a car crash on New Year's Day.

Therese MacGowan, 87, was driving her car in Ballintogher, Tipperary before it hit wall at around 3pm.

MacGowan, who co-wrote hit Christmas track, Fairytale of New York, was born in Pembury and later attended Holmwood House School in Langton Green.

The 59-year-old's long-term partner Victoria Mary Clarke took to Twitter to thank well wishers for their support.
