Get behind your local infantry regiment.

That is the call being issued during Support Your Tigers week, aimed at raising support for Kent’s Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment (PWRR), nicknamed The Tigers.

The Tigers currently have over 700 troops serving on overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, recruits solely in the south and south east of England and is made up of two Regular Army Battalions - 1 PWRR based in Germany and 2 PWRR based in Cyprus - and one Territorial Army Battalion - 3 PWRR with TA Centres across the region.

Support Your Tigers started yesterday with the launch of PWRR wristbands, which cost £1. Money raised will be split between the PWRR welfare fund which supports injured soldiers and their families as well as the Help For Heroes Charity.

The wristbands can be purchased direct, using PayPal, from the PWRR website and from all Army recruiting offices across the region.

Each day this week we are featuring a local Tiger - today we introduce you to Lt Dan Carey .

Lt Dan Carey must be feeling very envious if he is seeing any news about the UK while he serves with his regiment in Iraq.

The former Judd School pupil said he missing winter snow while he spends time in the Middle East.

The 24-year-old also said he missed messing round with little brother Owen, 9, and decent evenings with his friends.

That said, his current tour of duty has included some fantastic experiences which make missing the snow worthwhile.

Boat patrols around Leaf Island, drinking Arabic style tea with Bedouins, and working with Iraqi Generals on the Iranian border are among the highlights not just of this tour, but of his army career to date.

He said: "It is great to get the chance to finally do my job and lead my soldiers on the ground and have an impact on the local situation."

Lt Carey had only lived in Germany for a few weeks before deployment but he said this gave him a good taste of what to expect when he gets back.

He said: "I like to travel around so I also find new places to stay interesting. The main difference is in order to go home and visit family and friends you have to catch a plane on the weekend."
