A person was cut from a vehicle following a five car smash which closed a main road in both directions.
The accident happened on the A21 Lamberhurst between the A262 and B2169 at about 3.30pm today, with reports of long tailbacks.
One person was cut from a vehicle wreckage while another seven were treated roadside for minor injuries – the road was cleared before 5pm according to reports.
Speaking this evening, a spokesman for the fire service said: “A person has been released by firefighters from the wreckage of a vehicle following a road crash involving five vehicles on the coastbound carriageway of the A21 near Lamberhurst.
“Seven others were treated at the scene by paramedics for a range of minor injuries.
“Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to create space for paramedics to treat the trapped casualty before removing them to a waiting ambulance.”
Speaking at the time of the accident, Kent Highways advised drivers to seek alternative routes.
They said: “ The A21 Lamberhurst remains closed in both directions between A262 and B2169 following an road traffic collision. Emergency services are in attendance.
“Please use an alternative route and expect delays in the area.”
The A21 was shut atthe A262 by Forstal Farm Roundabout, Lamberhurst and the B2160 Maidstone Road at the Kipping’s Cross Roundabout until just before 5pm.
The closure affected drivers travelling between Tonbridge and Hurst Green with long delays in the area.
