TWO men who seriously assaulted a taxi driver after he dropped them off in the early hours are being sought by police.

The taxi driver, a Cranbrook man in his 50s, picked up the two men in the forecourt of Tunbridge Wells Central Station, near Safeways supermarket, and drove them to Silwood Close on the town’s Sherwood Estate.

After the men got out of the vehicle, one of them leaned through the driver’s window, punched the driver in the face and demanded his takings which they took and walked away.

The driver was later treated at the Kent and Sussex Hospital at Tunbridge Wells for a cut to his eye.

One of the two men is described as white, 6ft tall, medium to stocky build, with short brown hair, and clean shaven. He wore dark-coloured trousers and a top, possibly coloured red.

The second man was white, about 5ft 9ins. He has short, had brown hair, a pointed face and was clean, shaven. He wore dark clothing.

PC Neil Finch, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was an unpleasant and unprovoked assault and we would like to speak to anyone who can help us with our inquiries."
