A teenager who tried to bring Class A drugs into a pub during England's World Cup semi-final with Croatia has been jailed.
Louie Wilson, 19, was caught by a doorman with a stash of LSD and ecstasy hidden in a tobacco tin, as he tried to enter the venue in Castle Street on July 11.
Security staff were checking people prior to entry and when they searched a rucksack Wilson was carrying, they found 24 tablets of MDMA and 48 paper tabs of LSD.
Officers were called to the scene and Wilson was arrested. He later admitted during police interview the drugs were his.
He claimed he had bought them on the ‘dark web’ and said they were intended for personal use and to sell to friends.
He added he didn’t consider himself a dealer and had in fact been planning to embark on a round-the-world cycle trip.
Wilson, of Hillingdon Rise, Sevenoaks, was subsequently charged with two counts of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.
"Wilson may well have been planning to sell these drugs to friends, but it is equally possible he also intended to seek out customers in what would have been a packed pub..." - Inspector Chris Mayers
He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.
Inspector Chris Mayers said: "We work very closely with licensed premises in Tunbridge Wells to deter the supply and misuse of illegal substances and on this occasion the vigilance of door staff has ultimately led to the destruction of a significant quantity of Class A drugs.
"Wilson may well have been planning to sell these drugs to friends, but it is equally possible he also intended to seek out customers in what would have been a packed pub.
"Substances such as LSD and Ecstasy can lead to serious harm and sometimes also have fatal consequences.
"Wilson would have known this and is now paying the price with a prison sentence."
