A British tourist, believed to be from Kent, has been arrested over claims she removed tiles from a mosaic in Pompeii.
Italian media reports that the 21-year-old was visiting the archaeological site with her father and sister, when she climbed over a safety barrier and used a sharp object to cut the 8mmx8mm tiles from the floor.
She is then said to have been spotted by a caretaker who alerted the police to the damage, which is estimated to total €3,000 (£2,585).
The woman arrested is originally from Tunbridge Wells, according to The Times.
The ancient city of Pompeii was buried under volcanic ash following in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
