The family of an ex-soldier who died following a crash on the A21 near Pembury has paid tribute to a “beloved husband and wonderful father.”
Paul Cowie was driving a Mini Cooper when it was in a collision with a black Renault Clio near the junction with Henwood Green Road a week ago today.
Mr Cowie, who lived in the Pembury area, was taken to King’s College Hospital, London but died the following day of his injuries. He was 57.
His family said today: “With the greatest of sorrow, we announce that beloved husband and wonderful father Paul Cowie passed away on the evening of Monday (November 13).
“He did so peacefully and with his family by his side after an accident early (last) Sunday evening.
“Paul’s family wish to thank, from the bottom of their hearts, the exceptional nursing team at King’s College Hospital for their commitment and support, the first responders and the police team for their compassion and efforts, and finally, to all their friends and family for sending their love and condolences at this time.
“Paul was a quiet and reflective man who served in the army for 12 years.
“He loved to walk and was often spotted walking at a rapid pace all over the South East.
“His devoted wife Josephine and his loving children Alex and James miss him terribly and will always love him deeply.”
Kent Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
A 27-year old woman from Wadhurst was also taken to hospital with serious injuries but which are not thought to be life-threatening.
A police spokesman said: “Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to speak to any witnesses who have not yet been in touch and who may have seen the vehicles immediately before or during the collision.”
The crash happened around 5.40pm on Sunday November 12.
