A suspected thief crashed into two police cars during a chase.
Special constables in Tunbridge Wells pursued a Ford Transit in the early hours of Tuesday morning, after deeming it suspicious.
The volunteer officers activated their blue lights and tried to stop the van, but it continued through Sandhurst Road.
It drove off towards High Brooms and other officers were called in.
With the chase continuing, the Transit turned on to Brook Road, where it met an unconventional roadblock.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "The vehicle entered Brook Road where it then collided with two police cars."
At least one of the cars is thought to have been written off in the crash but nobody was hurt.
A 42-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped for theft, failing to provide a breath specimen, dangerous driving and possession of an offensive weapon.
He was later bailed to return to a police station on Friday, January 17.
Tunbridge Wells Ch Insp, Pete Steenhuis, said: "Kent’s special constables are unpaid volunteers who give up at least 16 hours of their own time every month supporting our regular police officers.
"We are always keen to hear from people of all different ages and backgrounds who may want to become a Special. They are highly respected by their regular colleagues and play an invaluable role in disrupting and deterring criminals. The role is rewarding and challenging, but also fulfilling and it can often fit in neatly among other full-time jobs."
Special constables have full police powers, wear a uniform and carry standard-issue police equipment. Anyone interested in joining the Special Constabulary can visit www.kent.police.uk/specials.
