Marden’s Louise Allen wins three gold medals at World Rowing Masters Regatta in Germany

Marden’s Louise Allen won multiple gold medals in the World Rowing Masters Regatta at the historic Beetzsee Regatta Course in Germany.

Partnered by Bewl Bridge Rowing Club clubmate Mika Rosenfeld, of Hartfield in East Sussex, the duo, who have been rowing together for more than three years, enjoyed a memorable time in Brandenburg.

Allen’s golds came in the Women’s Masters C Quadruple Sculls, Mixed Masters B Quadruple Sculls and Mixed Masters C Quadruple Sculls.

The women’s quad saw a new crew combination unite, as they partnered up alongside Andrea Fiene and Leonora Gaspar from Hammarby Rowing Club in Stockholm.

Mixed-category victories came alongside long-standing friends Boris Batine, Alexander Kornilov and Dimitri Ovechiko from Barcelona Rowing Club, while Rosenfeld also went on to win gold in the Mixed Masters C Double Sculls, with a rower from Schweriner Ruderclub in Germany.

Allen and Rosenfeld brought home silver in their doubles race, as well.

Allen only learnt to row in 2018, joining Bewl Bridge’s popular “Adult Learn to Row” course.

The 35-year-old said: “Rowing at the World Masters is a huge privilege and thrill.

“We train all year-round, attending regattas and head races all over the UK and Europe - but this is the big one.

“To win so many medals, and to be able to row with so many of our ever-increasing circle of international rowing friends, [it] makes it all worthwhile.”

Rosenfeld added: “Rowing with Louise is a great partnership. After so many races together, we know exactly how to support each other the whole way.

“To win you need to decide that this is what you are going to do and not accept any other outcome. Every win pushes the limits of what you think is possible.”
