Sam Billings announced himself on the international stage to help England whitewash Pakistan in the three-match T20 series in Dubai.

The 24-year-old Kent wicketkeeper-batsman registered his maiden international half-century as England won the opening game of the series by 14 runs on Thursday.

With Jos Buttler rested, Billings made the most of his inclusion as gloveman, blasting 53 off 27 balls, as he and captain Eoin Morgan scored 65 in the last six overs to carry England to a total of 160-5, having been floundering on 19-3 at one stage.

The Pembury ace clubbed two sixes and five fours before giving up his wicket in the search for another quick single.

He however followed it up with a major contribution with the gloves, including two catches and the vital stumping of Sohaib Maqsood as Pakistan were dismissed for 146 in reply.

Buttler returned behind the stumps for the second match of the series on Friday night, but Billings remained in the lineup and cracked a mighty six in his 11-run stay as the tourists posted 172-8.

The total proved just enough as England restricted the hosts to 169-8 in the final over, with Billings holding the vital catch of Shoabib Malik for 26 to help their cause.

Even more drama was to follow in Sharjah on Monday evening as England needed a Super Over to secure the 3-0 series win.

Billings made seven as England recovered from 86-6 in the 13th over to post 154-8 from their 20 overs.

The hosts looked poised to claim victory with Shoabib Malik at the crease, 75 not out from 54 balls and needing two to win with two balls to come, however Billings again claimed his scalp with an expert catch in the deep off Chris Woakes.

The scores finished level but Chris Jordan’s tight over with the ball allowed just three runs, which England passed with ease.
