Will Bayley and Ross Wilson have been selected to represent Great Britain at this summer’s Paralympics in Rio.

Bayley, 28, from Tunbridge Wells, and Wilson, 20, who lives in Minster, are in a 12-man squad.

World No.1 Bayley is looking to go one better after winning silver at London 2012.

He said: "Being selected for another Paralympic Games means everything to me - it's my life.

"I love table tennis and to be selected to compete for your country at a Paralympic Games is the pinnacle of any player’s career.

“London was special. It sometimes felt like an out of body experience, but I performed well under tremendous pressure. I learnt so much and feel stronger mentally because of it.”

Wilson won bronze at London 2012 but has struggled with injury since then.

He recently returned from the Lignano Master Open in Italy – his fifth competition since the London Olympics - with a bronze medal.

In 2011 Wilson was diagnosed with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, which affects the growing ends of the bones.

The former top-10 able-bodied junior has been a GB paralympic player ever since.

Speaking after his season opener in Italy, Wilson said: “I’ve changed a lot of my game in the last few months.

“It has made me realise what I need to work on going into the next competitions and that will be a big help to me for Rio. I’m definitely in a good place.”

Performance director Gorazd Vecko said: “Four years ago we had nine players qualified for London and we now have 12 players qualified for Rio so we are in a better position than we were in 2012 when we won four medals.

"Our target is four to six medals and we are on track to achieve that.

“We should not forget that other countries are also working hard and it will be a massive challenge for us.”
