Boy, 5, seriously injured in crash in Marden Road, Staplehurst

A five-year-old boy has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after a crash in Staplehurst.

The child was a passenger in a grey Chevrolet Captiva when it swerved across a grass verge and ended up in a ditch.

The youngster was flown to St George's Hospital in London, where there is a specialist neurological unit, with head injuries.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman from the Cranbrook area, suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed for five hours while police investigated.

Officers from the serious collision investigation unit are now appealing for witnesses.
