Police are looking for a balaclava-clad thief who robbed a couple in their home before taking their jewellery and watches.

Officers are trying to track down the man who targeted a home in Thorn Road, Marden, at around 4am on Sunday, September 5.

He threatened a man and woman before stealing a number of items including cash, a bracelet, necklaces and several watches.

Among the property taken was a Rolex Datejust 36MM Silver Strips Baton Dial watch and a Boodles Raindance Classic diamond ring. A pair of Links of London sterling silver stud earrings, in the shape of a horseshoe, were also taken, along with a silver charm necklace by Sif Jakobs.

The suspect is a stocky 5ft 10in man who was wearing a black jacket, balaclava and black gloves, as well as a black rucksack.

The victims weren't seriously injured during the ordeal.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex serious crime team have been at the scene speaking to witnesses and checking for forensic evidence.

A spokesman for the force said: "As part of their continuing work, they would like to hear from anyone who believes they have information on the incident.

"They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage, or privately held CCTV, which was recorded in the general vicinity between 4am and 5am."

This terrifying ordeal is the latest in violent crime to occur in the Weald.

In August last year, armed police swooped on an address in Marden after an armed burglar forced his way into a house and threatened a woman before stealing money, watches and items of jewellery.

Days later an 80-year-old woman "thought she was going to die" when a masked burglar held a gun to her head during an evening raid on her home in Paddock Wood.

In March last year, another woman was tied up and left with her hands and legs bound after a gang of four men broke into her home in Clapper Lane, Staplehurst, before stealing jewellery, a watch, cash and two mobile phones.

No arrests have yet been made in relation to these break-ins.

Earlier this year in April, a woman in her 60s was left with bruising, a black eye and cuts to her face after she was beaten and cut with a knife, had a bottle of alcohol poured over her and was tormented by an intruder for hours, before being left tied up as he made off with nothing but a small amount of cash.

Billy Williams, 29, was charged on April 22 with aggravated burglary. He remains remanded in custody pending trial.
