Drivers are told to plan alternative routes after power cables came crashing down across a road.

The lines have fallen along Station Road, Staplehurst on the A229.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "The A229 is closed between Fishers Road and Marden Road and drivers should consider alternative routes.

UK Power Networks and Kent Police are at the scene.

"HGV drivers will not be able use the side roads in the area and should plan their journey using other A-roads."

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: "Engineers are working as quickly as possible to restore electricity supplies to four customers in the Station Road area of Staplehurst.

"To safely carry out repairs to a damaged power line, staff needed to turn off supplies to 29 customers from 1.40pm to 2.10pm.

"Work is progressing to reconnect the remaining four supplies."
