There's a new campaigning group in town - the Capel Greenbelt Protection Society (CGPS).

A registered charity, it has been established to protect and enhance Capel’s Greenbelt countryside, alongside providing education projects to help people understand the environment.

The group, under the chairmanship of Dave Parrish, said it would be working closely with Capel Parish Council, Keep Kent Green and Save Capel.

Capel is under threat from extensive housebuilding proposed in Tunbridge Wells council's draft Local Plan which is currently going through its final stages, with plans to build a garden village of 2,800 homes on the Hadlow Estate and thousands more homes in the east of Capel and around Paddock Wood.

The new group will hold a "greenbelt gathering" for all those interested by Zoom tomorrow, Tuesday, (March 2) at 7pm.

The meeting will run through a range of topics, from walking, green spaces and wilding, to traffic, quarrying, new roads and housebuilding.

The Local Plan public consultation starts on March 26 and a short explanation will be provided alongside an outline of some of the fun projects the group will be launching after the end of lockdown, to promote wellbeing and provide some fun for children.
