Competitors are being invited to take part in this year’s Weald of Kent Ploughing Match.

The annual event, which usually raises about £4,000 for charity, will involve horse and tractor powered matches and conclude with a tug-of-war.

It is being held on Saturday, September 20, at Gatehouse Farm in Green Lane, Marden.

Secretary Karen Wheeler said: "It is a tradition of the ploughing match that we finish with a tug of war which is great fun for those taking part as well as on-lookers. We just need plenty of muscle to come forward."

For the first time in the event’s 57-year history horses won’t be the only four-legged competitors taking part, with Frittenden dog-lover Jan Linch organising an agility competition for canine companions.

Other attractions will be a traditional gymkhana, a bustling Farmers’ Market, vintage and veteran tractors, clay pigeon shooting, terrier racing and sheaf tossing.

Entry will be £5 per person and free for children aged under 16.
