An accident on a major route through the county caused delays earlier this evening.

The incident happened on the A229 Staplehurst Road at Cross-at-Hand between Maidstone and Staplehurst near Summerhill Road.

It is understood the road has now reopened and traffic in the area has begun to ease.

It is not known if anyone was seriously injured in the incident.
