A body has been found in the search for a missing man.

A search and rescue mission which entered its second day to find Michael English, who was last seen leaving his home in Horsmonden, near Tunbridge Wells, on Wednesday, has been called off.

The body was found at a location near Furnace Lane, Horsmonden, at around 11.30am earlier today.

A police spokesman said: "Formal identification has not yet taken place, however, the family of a 60-year-old man who was reported missing on January 5 have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner."

Many people in the village who knew of Michael, also known as Mike, had offered to help look for him and have since paid tribute.

Carolyn Asplin said: "Desperately sad news. Such a lovely man. Prayers and thoughts for Julie and family and friends grieving his sad passing."

While Gilly McArthur added: "How utterly devastating for his family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with them. Our community was so hopeful of a good outcome."

Matt Panayi commented: "Such a lovely guy, so sad to hear the news. Rest in peace Mike. Condolences to the family."

While Sophie Howard-Williams said: "Such a lovely man - will be missed by many. Thank you to everyone who took time to look for him."

Hundreds of others paid tribute to Mike following the news, including Jason Hollands who said: "This is incredibly sad news. Mike was one of the best, a really great guy. He will be sorely missed."

Kent Search and Rescue's volunteers had teamed up with the police to try and find the missing 60-year-old who was last seen leaving his home at around 8.45pm earlier this week, apparently wearing minimal clothing.

The KSAR team were out searching on Thursday, assisted by Kent Police who appealed to the public for information and had a helicopter out, but wanted to thank the community for their kind spirit.

Especially village shop Heath Stores who supplied the team with warm drinks and treats.

A spokesman said: "The KSAR Team would like to send massive thank you to Heath Stores in Horsmonden for supplying members of the team and Kent Police with tea, coffee, sausage rolls and sweet treats during our search today.

"Your kindness and generous supplies made us all smile."

The team was also out searching for a missing man from Dover.
