A teenager has been bailed after a gang attack put a man in his 40s in hospital.

Police arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder in West Kingsdown on Monday night, following the attack in Goudhurst at around 7.30pm.

Armed police and an air ambulance descended on Lurkins Rise.

Police believe the attackers and their victim are known to each other.

Despite the air ambulance's arrival the victim, who suffered stab wounds, was taken to a London hospital by road, where he is still recovering.

Following the attack, the national police helicopter was launched as police searched for suspects.

The helicopter was spotted over West Kingsdown, where police arrested a local 18-year-old in Crowhurst Lane.

He has been bailed until September 3, when he must return to an unnamed police station.

Det Ch Insp Mat Scott, from Kent Police’s Crime Investigation Department, said: "We understand the individuals involved in this incident are known to each other and we are following numerous lines of enquiry.

"Although we have made an arrest, and spoken with a number of people at the scene, we are keen to hear from anyone who has information that is yet to speak with us.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a grey Kia SUV type vehicle and a black Ford Focus estate travelling in the Goudhurst and Cranbrook areas between 7pm and 9pm."

Police were continuing door to door enquiries in Lurkins Rise on Tuesday.

There have been no other arrests, but the investigation continues.
