A man has been arrested after a woman was tied up for more than 48 hours following a burglary at her home.

The victim, who is in her 60s, was tied up, repeatedly punched, cut with a knife and had a bottle of alcohol poured over her during the incident at her home near Maidstone on Sunday, April 4.

She was left with bruising, a black eye and cuts to her face in an ordeal that went on for several hours, before the assailant finally tied her up and left.

Less than £100 was taken from her home during the incident.

She had been in her garden at about 6pm on Easter Sunday when a man, who claimed he was hot from a cycle ride, asked for drink of water.

After she gave him a drink, he leapt over the fence, bundled her inside her own home and assaulted her.

He left her bound hand and foot, gagged and restrained in such a way that she couldn't even move to window to attract attention.

As a final act of indignity he poured a bottle of alcohol over her before leaving.

Now, after a police appeal, officers arrested a 29-year-old man from Headcorn on Friday in connection with the aggravated burglary.

He has since been released on bail, pending further inquiries, until Wednesday, May 12.

Police are continuing to ask residents who live nearby to check their CCTV, doorbell cameras and contact police if they suspect they have footage which can assist them.

Detectives remain keen to hear from anyone who can identify a man in an e-fit image released as part of the appeal.
