Equestrian property in Brenchley carries a £1.75m price tag

A property has gone on the market for £1.75 million – but 44 years ago it would have cost a fraction of that price.

The six-bedroom detached home in Hatmill Lane, Brenchley, had a price tag of £55,000 in 1978 but estate agents are now looking for offers "in excess of £1,750,000".

But that includes a three-acre paddock and a stable block that contains three stalls and a tack room.

Built in the 1920s, the property is not listed, but contains attractive period features such as high ceilings and sits in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It is reached by a private gravel drive and has a double garage.

There is a conservatory and the dining room has a bay window overlooking the landscaped garden.

There is a secondary access leading directly to the paddock from the road.

The property is being sold through Fine and Country (Uckfield).

In 1978 it was advertised in the Horse and Hound Magazine.

That year, houses in the UK were going for an average of £15,261.
