A thug who grabbed a shop assistant around the neck and threatened them with a knife has been sent to prison.
Robert Plowman, formerly of Crittenden Road, Matfield, targeted Goudhurst Newsagents on High Street, on Tuesday, February 18.
The court heard how the 29-year-old grabbed a shop assistant by the neck and demanded money, but when the employee said he did not know how to open the till there was a fight.
Plowman threatened to kill the store worker, before scratching his neck and stabbing him in his abdomen, causing small puncture wounds.
He then ran off but was found later that day in Station Road, Paddock Wood, where he was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
The shop assistant no longer works at the High Street newsagents and took some time out of work following the attack to stay with family.
Plowman was sentenced to four years and two months imprisonment at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday after previously pleading guilty.
Spokesman PC Lily MacKay said: "This shopkeeper was working on his own and subjected to a terrifying ordeal.
