New flood alerts have been issued following a yellow weather warning for heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has said flooding is possible for the River Medway from Forest Row to Penshurst, in Sevenoaks, including Ashurst, near Tunbridge Wells.

Officers have told residents to "be prepared" as the water levels rise at Forest Row, Summerford Bridge, near Withyham, and at Colliers Land Bridge near Ashurst.

This afternoon a further flood alert was issued for the River Teise area from Lamberhurst to Goudhurst, near Tunbridge Wells.

The alert is in force as heavy rain is expected into the late afternoon.

Despite this, flooding inside properties is not expected.

Officers said: "Please avoid using low-lying land and roads close to the rivers, particularly around Forest Row, Ashurst and Penshurst and around Balls Green at Ashurst.

"We are continuing to monitor the situation and our incident response staff are out on the ground checking and clearing any blockages and debris from the rivers."

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain yesterday which is in place from 1am this morning until 4pm.

It has said there will be spells of persistent and at times heavy rain which could cause areas to flood.

The conditions are expected to clear eastwards by the afternoon with some areas experiencing 40-50 mm of rain.

Earlier this week, roads were described as rivers as they became waterlogged and some are still closed following the heavy downpours.

The B2162 Hampstead Lane, Yalding, is shut in both directions due to flooding between Hampstead Lock and the B2015 Maidstone Road.

At 12.30pm, the warning was upgraded to include the River Darent from Westerham to Dartford including Brasted, Sundridge, Chipstead, Dunton Green, Otford, Eynsford and South Darenth.

Flooding of roads and low-lying land is expected between 3pm today until the early hours of tomorrow.

Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 36 hours with river levels expected to remain high until Tuesday morning.
