A new microlight took to the skies near Paddock Wood yesterday (Saturday) thanks to a generous £30,000 donation from Tonbridge Scouts.

The aircraft was named after Bill Stubbs who first established microlight flights and training for young people at Old Hay Airfield in 1989. He later lead the 17th Tonbridge Air Scout Group.

His widow, Brenda unveiled the flying machine alongside Dean Harding, county commissioner.

It is the sixth microlight taken on by Kent Scouts. Each year the group year offer about 300 young people up to the age of 14 the chance to pilot the aircraft alongside trained instructors.

John Hunt, Kent Scouts publicity leader, said: "It is a fantastic facility for young people and it is really exhilarating for them to fly. This new microlight will be able to stay in operation for at least another five to seven years."
