Plans have been submitted to build a shepherd’s hut and holiday cabins – one of which will be surrounded by a moat – on a fishery.
If approved, they will be constructed on isolated land on The Lucks Lakes near Paddock Wood.
One out of three of the proposed cabins would be surrounded by a pond or moat which would be accessed via an existing wooden decked footbridge.
They would each have a double bed sleeping area, open living and kitchen area and an enclosed bathroom.
The one proposed Shepherd’s hut would have a double bed sleeping area, bathroom, toilet, main living area with a kitchenette and a log burner.
They will each provide “limited but comfortable accommodation” for anglers and other guests, for short stays of one or two nights or extended stays of up to seven nights.
Four more parking spaces would be added to the existing 30 at the fishery, formerly known as Lucks Lane Lakes. There will also be a storage area for recycling and refuse bins.
The application is part retrospective as some of the work was started in August 2022, without planning permission. Plans can be viewed here.
Access to the site will be via the existing track from Lucks Lane.
The fishery has three lakes and already has “associated development holiday cabins” and a mobile home on site.
The design and access statement says: “The proposal is considered to be sustainable on the basis that it would support an established rural business as well helping to support the local rural economy.
“The development will have no impact on the visual amenity or cause harm to the character of rural landscape.”
It also claims it will not impact traffic, and poses no flooding issues.
