Part of a busy crossroads is currently blocked after part of the road gave way.
A water leak is said to be the cause of the problem at the North Road crossroads in Goudhurst.
Police are at the scene managing traffic after being called at 11.20am.
There is reportedly a hole in the road, and drivers are being advised to expect delays and use a different route if possible.
Temporary four-way traffic lights are in place while engineers remain at the scene.
South East Water’s Distribution Manager, Michael Phillips said: "We were alerted to a problem on Monday and found a nine-inch diameter water main had burst.
"Our teams were on site quickly and repaired the pipe as soon as possible.
"To keep the public and workforce safe while this work was carried out, we had to put up four-way traffic lights.
"Water from the burst main has caused damage to the carriageway and we are currently making the necessary preparations to put that right.
"As soon as the road is fixed completely we will take down the traffic lights, but meantime we would like to thank motorists for their ongoing patience during this emergency repair."
