A woman had a nasty shock when she discovered a snake lingering behind the fridge in the kitchen of her Cranbrook home.
The Angley Road resident called the Kent Fire and Rescue Service for help just before 5pm last night, who in turn asked the Kent Wildlife Rescue Service to assist.
The snake was coaxed out from behind a washing machine by firemen who housed it in a cardboard box until an officer from the Kent Wildlife Rescue Service arrived and identified it as a grass snake.
Grass snakes are one of England's largest snakes.
They can grow to be up to 5ft long, but fortunately they are non-venomous and completely harmless to humans.
The snake was released back into the wild at a suitable location well away from any kitchens.
