A Paddock Wood company is ready to offer brewers across the world a unique array of flavours and aromas, following a partnership deal with a New Zealand hop grower.
Totally Natural Solutions (TNS) based on the Eastands Estate in Maidstone Road was founded eight years ago by Colin Wilson, a former director with Barth Haas.
Last year it signed a deal with New Zealand's largest hop grower NZ Hops Ltd, which has enabled the company to develop a new range of dry hop extracts for use by brewers.
NZ Hops is a cooperative of 27 master growers based in Nelson, on South Island, which is renowned as New Zealand’s sunniest region.
The area’s terrain helps create highly sought-after aromas and flavours in craft and traditional beers.
The joint venture has allowed TNS to marry its patented clean label extraction technologies with NZ Hops to deliver soluble hop aroma and flavour.
New Zealand-grown hops are in high demand, providing a unique chemical composition that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world, and they are therefore in scarce supply.
The TNS oil extraction processes gives a product that can replace pellets or whole hops in the brewing process, without sacrificing taste.
The firm has called its new range HopInspiration® Premium NZ.
It maintains it is a more sustainable method of brewing than traditional ways using whole hops, by reducing waste, saving on storage and transport costs, avoiding any pesticide residues, and providing absolute consistency in taste.
Mr Wilson said: “Since we signed this exclusive agreement with NZ Hops late last year, we’ve been working tirelessly to create our new HopInspiration® Premium NZ hops range offering hop varieties that have never existed as extracts before.
"We’re looking at the hop world through new eyes."
He said: “We’re excited to now be in a position to start rolling out our exclusive range to beer producers of all sizes, including craft brewers and major multinationals, in the UK and globally."
Craig Orr, CEO of NZ Hops, said: “This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to grow our brand globally and make our unique hops more accessible to brewers around the world."
Mr Wilson is hoping the deal will take his firm to a £10m turnover within three years.
