A new bi-monthly poetry slam has hit the streets of Canterbury, and it’s looking to be a big push into the spotlight for local budding poets – whether they win or not.
Cacofonix features eight poets, three rounds of slamming, and one winner, but that’s not all. Each poet not only has the chance to show off their talent in one of the most well-loved venues in Canterbury, but is also published in a printed poetry zine; illustrated by local artists as they perform; and receives a folder of professional photographs taken on the night to enrich their portfolio. Cacofonix aims to expose and empower all sides of the community, bringing local poets, artists, and photographers into one place, for a full experience of everything the scene has to offer.
So far Cacofonix has held two events in Bramley’s, Canterbury. Both nights have been major successes, with the audience spilling out of the room, and seasoned slammers and newcomers alike taking the stage to battle it out in a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. The night always ends with a bang, with acts never-before-seen in Canterbury.
