Crown Ceremonial: A Celebration of English Coronation Music

Thanet Festival Choir’s Summer Concert commemorates the Coronation of King Charles III with a programme of music from Coronations through the ages.
Hundreds of pieces of music have been performed at coronations over the centuries, so in order to narrow the choice down our Music Director decided only to include music that was specifically composed for a Coronation of King or Queen of England.

The choice was then narrowed further to create a programme of music to replicate the same order of performance as in the actual coronation service. Some pieces have enjoyed repetition in every Coronation since they were composed, like Parry’s I was glad when they said unto me (Psalm 122) from 1902 onwards, and Handel’s Zadok the Priest from 1727 onwards.

You can look forward to works by Handel, Parry, Alcock, Vaughan Williams, Stanford and Elgar – a true celebration of English Coronation Music.
