Discovering Charles I

A public lecture by Professor Richard Cust of the University of Birmingham.
Professor Richard Cust is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Birmingham, specialising in the political and cultural history of late sixteenth and early seventeenth century England.

His research interests range across late Tudor and early Stuart politics and political culture. His most recent books include Charles I A Political Life (Routledge 2007) and Charles I and the Aristocracy 1625 – 42 (Cambridge University Press, 2013).

In his lecture tonight he will examine Charles I’s responsibility for the political crises of his reign, including the outbreak of The English Civil War in 1642. It will be particularly suitable for 6th Form and university students who are studying the Civil War period.
