Local History Day

Back by popular demand, the Ramsgate Tunnels invite you to celebrate Local History Day on 10 May as part of the Historical Association’s Local and Community History Month.
Join us for a free, one-day journey through time at Local History Day! Museums and heritage organisations from Thanet and East Kent will showcase captivating displays, covering everything from rampaging Romans to extraordinary explorers.

Explore the Ramsgate Archive, filled with papers, artefacts, and memorabilia, with friendly volunteers on hand to offer expert advice and inspire your own local history projects.

The Tunnels’ popular Deep Tunnel Shelter tours will be running as normal throughout the day (pre-booking advised). These immersive tours bring Ramsgate’s wartime story to life, recounting how the town’s visionary mayor and borough surveyor helped create the largest purpose-built civilian shelter in the UK.

The Tunnels’ café will be open all day, serving a tempting selection of refreshments, light snacks, and indulgent cakes.

To book your place on a tour or to learn more about the organisations attending, visit the Tunnels’ website: www.ramsgatetunnels.org
