They’re a duo in more ways than one.
Dartmoor-based husband and wife duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have entwined their professional and personal relationship into an enviable, award-winning class act of imaginative songwriting and musicianship.
The pair have twice won the coveted title of Best Duo at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, delivering assured, distinctive performances whether live or recorded.
Over two decades of performances, they have continued to be bold and innovative, mixing traditional song arrangements with self-penned material from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad and the political to the passive across a range of genres from folk and rock to country and blues.
Born to musical parents who introduced her to folk, Kathryn has sung since she could speak. A tour-de-force of modern folk music whether on stage or in the recording studio, Sean has been playing guitar since the age of six.
After travelling the world with folk popsters Equation, he famously went on to help his brother Seth hone his sound, producing a string of successful albums and scooping awards along the way. His other production credits include Levellers, Bellowhead, Billy Bragg and Show of Hands.
After touring with other acts, the pair finally decided to tour together and five albums and numerous awards later they are at the forefront of British contemporary folk music.
They play Revelation Ashford on Friday, March 29. To book visit revelationashford.co.uk or pop into the Tourist Information Centre or the Record Store in Park Mall.
