It’s a small festival - by festival standards - but attracts some big names. A New Day Festival, which comes to Mount Ephraim Gardens in Faversham from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4, brings classic and more contemporary rock acts to the county this weekend for three days of live music in picturesque surroundings.
It’s the fourth year for the event, which sees thousands converge on the east Kent venue for the long weekend of music.
Headlining the first night will be Fish, former lead singer with Marillion, in what could be one of his last live performances, as he plans to retire from playing live soon.
Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre - Jethro Tull’s guitarist since 1969 - will also play, along with special guests Clive Bunker and Dee Palmer, celebrate 50 years of the band.
Back by popular demand will be Focus - best known for their hits Hocus Pocus, House of the King and Sylvia - who staged a comeback in the early 2000s.
For the Saturday, the ‘Voice of Rock’ Glenn Hughes, will perform a loving tribute to the music of classic Deep Purple live while also playing on the day will be Hawklords, Band of Friends, The Fierce and the Dead and, back for another year, Kanda Bongo Man.
Sunday sees some big names take to the stage, including Wilko Johnson of Dr Feelgood, who was a big hit with crowds with his band back at the first festival in 2016.
Glam rockers The Sweet, who started out in 1968, and whose biggest hits included Block Buster play.
Uli Jon Roth - lead guitarist and songwriter for top German rock band the Scorpions in the mid 1970s, and went on to form Electric Sun - performs, while playing to the crowds on Sunday will be Martin Turner, founding original member and lead singer of Wishbone Ash back in 1969.
Set in picturesque surroundings, the festival, which has a range of camping and glamping options for festivalgoers, will also have a wide range of food available.
Visitors will be able to fuel their festivalgoing with Thai food, doughnuts, ice cream and popcorn, as well as Greek food, bubble and squeak, gourmet burgers and even a hog roast.
