The Changeling Theatre's summer's tour featuring Shakespeare's All's Well that Ends Well, marking Shakespeare's 400th anniversary this year, and She Stoops to Conquer, is set to take its final curtain call.
The last performances will be back where it all started at Boughton Monchelsea Place in Maidstone on Friday, August 19, Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21.
Shakespeare with a touch of Miley Cyrus - I wasn't expecting that.
But a rendition of Wrecking Ball by the cast of the Changeling Theatre's sums up the company's approach to their text.
Although wholly traditional in an uber-traditional setting - you can't get much more ye olde English than a castle - the whole production had a young, refreshing feel to it.
The cast threw themselves into the play with exuberance and humour, and there was also quite a bit of audience participation: sharing your wine with the players isn't what you'd expect at the theatre either.
With costumes, lighting, music, and some interesting choreography, not forgetting the sight of artistic director Rob Forknall as a buxom wench, all pulling their weight alongside the top notch acting, it's no surprise the performances at Allington Castle were a sell-out. The Changeling has built up a solid reputation for top quality shows and this summer has been made for open-air theatre, with only a couple of performances being accompanied by brollies. Plus it's rare to get a glimpse of the privately-owned castle (a trip to the loo in the interval included the treat of seeing inside parts of the castle, including the inner garden courtyard - so worth the queuing!).
The company have performed all over the county in a variety of settings this summer, including the beach in Margate, but there was something special in the air at Allington. Maybe it was that just 100 tickets were up for grabs, even though there was space for more.
