The Be Bright Be Seen scheme has given away 26,000 reflective disks to children in the hopes that they will improve road safety for young cyclists.
The campaign, run by Medway Council and Kent County Council in partnership with kmfm, received a large number of applications for the reflective products from local schools and youth organisations this year.
Kent County Council has been working on the campaign with the KCC Safety Team for seven years, offering tips and providing free reflective products each autumn.
This year, they received more than 1,000 applications and have delivered 25,000 disks to destinations across Kent.
Medway Council, who joined the scheme for the first time this year, teamed up with Specsavers Medway to deliver a further 1,000 reflective disks to 250 local schools and organisations.
In addition to the disks, Medway Council also sent out 1,000 high visibility vests. They also already supply reflective keyrings to Year 6 students in the area.
Rob Wills, kmfm’s Head of Broadcast, said: “Be Bright Be Seen is a huge safety campaign that we are very proud to run in conjunction with the KCC Road Safety Team. Delivering 25,000 free reflective disks is no easy task but the feedback always makes it worthwhile.
“It’s great this year to have Medway Council on board with Specsavers Medway. We have been able to deliver these free reflective products that will help our young children be more visible during the dark mornings and nights.
“We look forward to bringing the campaign back even bigger next year. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
